Rivers of Blood!

Thank God there's little value in films anymore, otherwise our shops would potentially have been smashed up! It's all trainers and electricals. We had to close Ladbroke Grove and Queens Park on advice from Police, although Camden, where it was all kicking off, resolutely decided to stay open with baseball bats at the ready! As it happens, shops that did remain open have been particularly busy with people not going out, instead staying at home and watching movies! And what great films there are to watch as well. Anyone seen this hilarious clip of the Tottenham woman giving some stick to the happy-shoppers... Absolutely Priceless!

Looking for God?

Very cynical but what the Hell! Check out the below trailer for Friends With Benefits... new Justin Timberlake/Mila Kunis RomCom. What powers are setting agendas here??
Apple, with great i-pad product placement and certain Christian organizations, like lifechurch.tv, who get to spread-the-word-of-the-Lord via i-phone apps! Timberlake, who's Grandfather was a Babtist Minister, was brought up on Religon and honed his singing with his Choir Master Dad, before moving into the Squeeky Clean Mickey Mouse Club.
Back to Apple... WOW! Check this out as partly evidenced in recent BBC documentary Secrets of the Superbrands. Although the presense of a 'near-masonic' Apple vibe has been around for some time, would you Adam-and-Eve it! A direct line of communication with The lord App, no doubt coming soon! And probably available via MySpace along with all sorts of other Goodness, as Timberlake has recently bought MySpace from News Corp. (Murdoch) in partnership with on-line marketing company, Specific Media.
You can of course get a Quran App, or check out all these from The Divine Blog.
Convergeance is truly upon us... how about a DMT App - CHECK THIS OUT for true enlightenment after the trailer!

Bad News 'The Movie'

You know it's going to happen so lets imagine the ideal cast, starting with the Aussies... it's got it all, sleeze, scandal, power, money, glamour, corruption, political intrigue and there's bound to be some sex in there somewhere! Maybe the odd killing?

What's truly amazing is how the whole saga has brought to light the sheer amount of time and money that our politicians (and Police Chiefs) waste on PR and Political image consultants. You Watch my back and I'll Wash yours!
Echoes of The Profumo Affair. It'll no doubt bring down Cameron before it's over with, which is why Boris is of course not getting behind him wholeheartedly... he knows he's going to be in-line to run the country eventually! Can't wait for the Mandy tapes as there surely must be some somewhere. Remember this all happened on Labour's watch. Burlusconi eat your heart out. (Nick Cave should of course direct the movie! Maybe Fox could distribute)

Jess Franco

Watch or download the infamous erotic shocker by cult director Jess Franco starring Klaus kinski... (1969 version). A jazz trumpeter in the throes of a breakdown, is sucked into a perverse mire of psycho-sexual horror after finding the dead body of a girl he had watched being stripped and whipped the previous evening at a party.

Featuring a great Jazz score played by Manfred Mann, and Jess Franco! Here's the closing song... classic!

SMARTER TV

With all the hype about Smart TVs lately, lets get things into perspective... they're not smart, they are doing deals to feed you 'Preferred Content' within a walled environment!
The real battle is between the Content Distribution Channels, like Sky, Virgin and the plethora of corporate content providers/services that have to do the deals with them... and, THE INTERNET. Because they're not offering an open Internet user experience. They're not offering the required software Add-Ons! Like a simple operating system (Google TV is perhaps the one to watch).
So here's a short-term solution for those of you who want it Now...
The ability to easily display any content from your PC or Laptop, on your TV - with No Cables! Decent laptops now have powerful graphics cards and faster processors, making it so easy to display different Windows between screens, in HD.
You can now easily watch a Movie via the Net, on the plasma (via Channelfilms of course), while surfing/emailing/face booking on the Laptop or PC, on the sofa, with no wires to worry about and switch between screens depending upon what you want to watch!

Its always interesting how technology's available for quite a while before its released into the market... there's a lot of 'holding-back' it seems to me. Politics and personal interests are apparent, especially between the traditional Channels of Content Distribution. Sky and other major Cable/Satellite providers have been calling the shots for some years now, when it comes to 'Revenue Windows'. Perhaps so much so that they're actually stifling Hardware Development whilst protecting traditional revenue streams. Look at Sony! Major Hardware and Major Content... PS3 is a walled environment, great though it is (plays Divx VOD Movies), it's technically capable of doing everything you want, in an open Internet. I-Tunes are the same... Walled, while they try to build on their clout with the major Hollywood Studios.
Which is why the likes of Samsung are starting to get some traction and Fill-The-GAP.
Its all going to be about the Phone...

You can now buy a fairly cheap HDMI connector for the Samsung Galaxy II smart phone, and use the wireless Ezair as mentioned above, to stream any content straight to the Telly. They've also done a deal with a third-party content provider for mainstream Hollywood Movies - download to the phone and Point-And-Play to your Plasma! The great thing about it is the Android Angle, which means that eventually ANY content can be accessed from your phone and played back on the Plasma (phone needs to be fully charged). And folks, that will include all our Flash films as well, although we're already Samsung Galaxy II compatible as they're DIvX Certified Devices!

SO WRONG, BRING IT ON...

The hype has started for Baron Von Cohen's latest movie, The Dictator, out next year which also stars Anna Faris.
Inspired by the novel Zabibah and The King by Saddam Hussein (What?). Telling the heroic story of a dictator who risked his life to ensure that democracy would never come to the country he so lovingly oppressed.
A Hussein-like dictator gets secretly replaced by a lookalike goat herder and now must find new meaning in a life in New York City. Sounds like a predictably weak plot... that's Hollywood for you! He's reuniting with his Borat and Bruno director Larry Charles.

If it ain't broke don't fix it!

As far as re-makes go, this looks pretty good at first glance... Sony have just released the first teaser trailer for The Girl With The dragon Tattoo, directed by David Fincher and starring Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara playing Lisbeth Salander. The role was originally offered to Natalie Portman who declined due to exhaustion. Scarlett Johannson was also short listed but considered too sexy!

ON NOW!

Great programme of films and music, at Institut Francais, Rich Mix, Rivington Place and SOAS.

Watch The Rice Paddy 3.30 this Saturday at Cine Lumiere...  Set amidst a stunning landscape in Southern China, this debut feature is the first film to be shot in the Dong language. The story evolves over four seasons, told through the diary entries of 12 year old A Qui. Her parents are migrant workers in the city, but are forced to return and work on the family rice paddy following the death of her grandmother. A Qui aspires to be a writer and travel the world, yet her best friend dreams of becoming the next 'Miss Dong'. While the film celebrates the traditions of the Dong community, it equally offers a telling comment on contemporary youth in an increasingly modern and changing China.

MAC or PC?

All I do know is that a Macbook Pro can survive being thrown hard down the stairs! Sexy AND reliable.  Sony are hanging in there for the PC,
they've just unveiled their new concept store in LA Baby...

Convergeance is happening whether they like it or not, both with Android apps and some pretty sexy hardware like this mini projector that plugs into your i-phone or other device... a no-brainer or what!

Mood-Driven Entertainment!

With fewer outlets where you can browse to buy films, physical Rental is back in vogue! HMV laying off more staff in an uncertain future and closing more stores. Blockbuster looking shabby with little selection and also closing stores (Bayswater gone), apparently Channel Films are now the second largest chain in London and we've only got four outlets! It's all Lovefilm and the Jersey boys, like play.com. As the market becomes yet more polarized with Amazon making moves (now majority owner of Lovefilm) and Netflix getting ready for Europe, there's actually far less choice for the consumer for instant gratification.
But there is a place where you can browse an amazing, eclectic and broad selection of films (including all the latest releases) in one place... and actually interact with like-minded people. Something you can't do with the net, no matter how sociable your social network may want to be!
We've noticed an upturn in business as the notion of getting down to the local video rental store is, again, an attractive option. With 2 new releases for 2 nights for £6, it's excellent value and a whole different social experience!
It could be argued that there's no other local retail environement where so many regularly visit and interact... FILM demands discussion, so of you live in one our London areas then come and see for yourself and get some 'Mood Driven Entertainment'.

Black Swan

Just been reminded that Darren Aronofsky's an old customer of ours at Camden Town! Without naming names, that makes around 10 Oscar winners amongst our shop members over the last 20 years. Who would believe it?

You can also watch him interviewed amongst other directors in the documentary This Film Is Not Yet Rated, about censorship in Hollywood, available to watch or download now...
